Ok, most parents will tell you that children might not be so enthusiastic about "tutoring club".  In fact one Roadie asked me if I should change the name to "reading club".  I held fast to the name because, honestly I was too lazy to change the word document I was using.

A few weeks ago I asked for prayer at church.  I was putting together a tutoring club for the children who reside in the Roosevelt Road Apartments.  I had numerous volunteers and was actually concerned that I wouldn't have any children to tutor.

I had delayed in handing out the flyer because often the case with people who are from other countries with limited English I thought they'd forget if I told them too far in advance.  Yesterday, one of the first beautiful afternoons that I was available I parked my car by the apartments and began walking from one house to another.  I was a little nervous as I'm not comfortable with one on one conversation.  I like a crowd where you don't have to get too personal.  I revel in small talk.

I began feeling less stressed after the first families two children seemed excited about the club.  the parents promised that they'd be there.  The next apartment had three women outside who clearly didn't speak english.  However Safiya a third grade Lowell student offered to help me.  I told her who I was and that Jo turner, Lowell's ell teacher wanted me to start a club.  Safiya thought it such a grand idea that she lead me to every apartment.  As we went to the next one my dear freinds Erik and Moise joined us.  I was beginning to feel that I could do this.  By the time I got to the last apartment I had a gaggle of children on bikes following me, telling their friends that they'd be coming too.  Honestly I felt like the pied piper.

God, as always was in this with me.  He knows I'm not comfortable all by myself.  He knows that I handle myself with ease when there are a lot of people around.  The children were like a safe haven for me.

so, looks like we'll have at least a dozen children and perhaps more.  Most importantly I feel like these children really want to come.  Some asked why it's only a one day club.  Well, I have to work I responded.  However, I truly believe that if this is what God wants me to do we'll figure it out.  He already brought more volunteers than I know what to do with so perhaps he'll bring the children and the plan along too.

It will be exciting to see what he has in store for us and I'm open to it all.  Well, only because I know that I'm not in charge.

Please pray for this little club, that we adore and cherish each and every child.  That the parents come and perhaps get to know each other and perhaps tighten the bonds of friendship.   And also, that we look for God in this and pay attention to what he wants us to do.

Peace in Christ, Linda

That's awesome, Linda! I'm

That's awesome, Linda! I'm glad things went so well. It's amazing how when we put ourselves out there to let God act, He responds. Way to put yourself out there!
